The nuclear safety policy established by EDF Nuclear Power Plant Operations in liaison with representatives of the Basic Design Department of the EDF Engineering and Construction Division lays down the principles to be used as a basis by the operating organization for attaining and guaranteeing the nuclear safety of the installations.

It includes the ideas put forward in INSAG-4 with a view to developing Safety Culture. Its application is underwritten by the Quality Policy of the EDF Generation and Transmission Division for the nuclear plants and the means and conditions for cooperation as well as the joint initiative implemented with the EDF Engineering and Construction Division, particularly within the context of the AGREEMENT undertaken between the Engineering and Construction Division and the Generation and Transmission Division for Engineering Support for Operations on 12 October 1992.

The section entitled "Relations with the Safety Authority" states the guiding principles implemented by operating organization to establish a mode of open and constructive relations. These relations are in the context of the respective complementary missions of the operating organization and the Safety Authority, with a view to providing, vis-à-vis the public, a guarantee that an adequate level of nuclear safety has been attained.
