Deterministic effects

These effects are known owing to:

	the use of high doses in radiotherapy (cancer treatment),
	observations of persons involved in accidents.

Stochastic effects

These effects have been studied in epidemiological surveys of exposed populations such as the survivors of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, uranium miners, radiologists at the beginning of the century, and so on.
