Management of Operational Safety of Nuclear Power Plants

The Regional Training Course on Management of Operational Safety of Nuclear Power Plants was held at the Center for Advanced Technological and Environmental Training (FTU) in Karlsruhe, Germany.

The training programme includes lectures and presentations on the topical areas of operational safety fundamentals; safety management; safety culture; safety assessment; quality programmes; performance evaluation tools; emergency preparedness and accident management; configuration management; corrective action systems, risk based management; communicating operational safety issues to the media and the public; the management of change; and training.

The two-week training programme was attended by a total of 20 participants, of which 18 were from eight East and Central European Countries and two were from China, with 16 from utility organizations (13 from operating plant organizations, three from corporate offices), and four from regulatory organizations. The distribution of participants is in very close agreement with the programme’s intention that they come from a nuclear power plant operating organization that has direct responsibility for operational safety.
