Establishing the Safety Infrastructure

W5: Workshop on Safety Review and Assessment by the Regulatory Body

(for late Phase 2 or early Phase 3 countries)

Objective:
To provide information and guidance on the following sub-topics:

  • Approaches and methods to conduct a regulatory safety review and assessment
  • Development and Management of the review and assessment by the regulatory body
  • Documentation to be submitted by licensee/utility/vendor, which are subjected to regulatory review; format and content of the Safety Analysis Report
  • Planning and organization for safety review and assessment, including workforce planning (competencies needed to conduct adequate safety review and assessment, use of external technical support and consultancy for safety review and assessment)
  • Development of procedures to conduct a safety review, particularly for review of the Safety Analysis Report
  • Format and content of the safety evaluation report to be prepared by the regulatory body
  • Review and assessment of the engineering factors
  • Review of the Deterministic Safety Analysis
  • Review of the Probabilistic Safety Analysis

To share experiences of some MS’s, which are in Phases 2 and 3 or beyond, in implementing the various regulatory approaches regarding safety review and assessment; benefits and implications of those approaches.
