Validation of measurement methods

Validation of measurement methods is an important task in a testing laboratory. Not only would this create trust in the selected methods to provide correct results, it would also help in estimating the uncertainty connected to the results.

Each validation was planned, the expected outcomes (acceptance values) defined and necessary measurements performed. Measurement results were compared to the primarily stated acceptance values and a validation statement issued.

  • Methods used for validation were:
  • Calibration with certified standard materials (calibration standards)
  • Performance testing
  • Intercomparison with other laboratories
  • Systematic investigations by using controls running with the samples
