Quality Management

Introduction

The Agency, in its Medium Term Strategy 2006-2011 (GOV/2005/8), stated that: “ …… a quality management culture needs to be created and sustained within the Secretariat along with the implementation of a quality management system” (Goal E).

In full compliance with this goal the Division of Radiation, Transport and Waste Safety (NSRW) has implemented a quality management system in its testing laboratory for radiation measurement, monitoring and protection. The laboratory carries out monitoring of members of IAEA staff, individuals under contract, experts, trainees and visitors who may be exposed to radioactive materials or other sources of ionizing radiation.

The quality management system is based on:

  • IAEA Safety Standards GS-R-3 and GS-G-3.1 for Management systems
  • ISO17025 - the international standard for demonstrating the proficiency of testing laboratories

The RIT quality management system is fully integrated into the overall management system for the IAEA.
