Occupational Radiation Protection
Objectives
The objective of the Agency’s programme on occupational radiation protection is to ensure an appropriate control of normal and potential occupational exposure due to external and internal irradiation from both artificial sources and natural sources of radiation This is achieved through provision of operational services for radiation monitoring and protection to the Agency’s own operations; and through assistance to Member States in establishing, maintaining and, where necessary, improving programmes for the radiation protection of workers. In this process the activities are targeting workers, employers, regulatory authority staff and radiation protection professionals.
The main areas of work are:
- Assessment of occupational exposure due to external sources of radiation
- Assessment of occupational exposure due to intakes of radionuclides
- Occupational radiation exposure monitoring which includes Individual Monitoring, (External Dosimetry, Whole Body Counting, Urine Analysis), Intakes Estimation and dose calculation
- Exposure to radiation from natural sources
- Operational Radiation Protection, which includes Workplace Monitoring and Support for Field Activities
- Occupational Radiation Protection Appraisal Service (ORPAS)
- Information System on Occupational Exposure (ISOE)
- Regional Technical Cooperation Projects
