Safety Knowledge-base for Ageing and Long Term Operation of Nuclear Power Plants (SKALTO)

What is SKALTO?

The safety knowledge base for ageing and long term operation of nuclear power plants (SKALTO) aims to develop a framework for sharing information on ageing management and long term operation of nuclear power plants. It provides important published documents and information related to these thematic areas created by the IAEA and other national or international organizations.

Target users are engineers in regulatory bodies, nuclear power plants, manufacturers and supporting organizations in Member States engaged in ageing / long term operation (LTO) programmes.

Please browse the linked SKALTO files and materials below. Send us your comments, opinions and questions by email; your feedback is welcome and will be used to improve SKALTO.

In the near future, SKALTO and the current Extrabudgetary Programme on Safety Aspects of Long Term Operation of Water Moderated Reactors (SALTO) will be intrated into a comprehensive knowledge base on long term operation and ageing management activities.

For further information or feedback, please contact SKALTO.

Basic Information and Guidance

This is the main body of SKALTO and provides basic information on long term operation and detailed technical guidance documents.

A series of guidance documents on ageing and long term operation have been produced based on IAEA Safety Standards and other national/ international practices. They provide detailed technical information on how to cope with long term operation issues.

In addition, “Key Reference documents” for basic knowledge are essential books on ageing and long term operation. They are mainly for those who start/will start working in ageing management and / or other long term operation activities.
