Standard training modules
The IAEA has developed a series of standard training modules on the safety of nuclear facilities, including standard training modules on ageing management and equipment qualification. Standard training modules on PSR, Configuration Management and Design Basis Data Management are under development.
Standard Training Module on Ageing Management
This module consists of a workshop manual and the following lecture slides:

Underlying aim was to ensure the availability of safety functions on demand throughout NPP service life. IAEA lecture was entitled “Overview of IAEA Nuclear Safety Programme”, including the objectives and scope of the programme and its five sub-programmes, and a detailed project on Safety Aspects of NPP Ageing with work on equipment qualification. |

RER Workshop on Regulatory Requirements and Practices for Ageing Management. Bratislava/ Slovakia |
Hosted by Nuclear Regulatory Authority of the Slovak Republic. The IAEA presented an Overview of IAEA Guidance on Managing Safety Aspects of NPP Ageing, followed by lectures on regulatory requirements/ guidelines for ageing management and related inspection and assessment practices in Finland, Switzerland, United Kingdom and USA; and a lecture on the ageing management programme of Swiss utilities, including associated costs and benefits. |

RUS National Workshop on NPP Licence Renewal Experience. Moscow/ Russia |
The workshop, held within the framework of TC project RUS/9/003 on Development of Regulatory Basis for NPP Licence Renewal/Extension of NPP Operation, consisted of presentations on: (a) ensuring long-term NPP safety through periodic safety review (PSR) including licence renewal/life extension; (b) US licence renewal; (c) Russian requirements and planned safety guides on life extension; and (d) discussions of the presentations, relevant experience, and the development of Russian regulatory documents on life extension. |

Bratislava, Slovakia | The workshop covered all major safety issues on long-term operation (LTO) of a nuclear plant, clarifying safety objectives, scope and methods. A final set of recommendations prepared by the experts on the basis of the discussions is expected to support a safety driven development of national programmes and strategies for LTO. |

Workshop on Ageing Management Programme in NPPs. Mumbai, India |
The workshop covered all major safety issues on long-term operation (LTO) of a nuclear plant and the Ageing Management Programme, clarifying safety objectives, scope and methods and discussing possible implementation frameworks at the Indian plants. Both PWR and PHWR issues were covered in a systematic overview of the most significant degradation mechanisms to be addressed by AMP and LTO programmes. |

Workshop on “Management and Assessment of Steam Generator Lifetime”. Wuhan, China |
The workshop was organized to help keep the SGs of Chinese PWR and CANDU type NPPs in safe and reliable operation, and included the following topics: - Ageing management of NPP in general; - Operation experiences (troubles) and failure mechanisms of SG; - Design basis documentation of SG;- Ageing management of SG;- Operation of SG;- Inspection of SG;- Maintenance and repair of SG; - Regulatory practice on operation, inspection and maintenance of SG. There were four presentations form China: (1) “Research Programme on Ageing Management of Steam Generator at RINPO”, (2) “Life Management of Steam Generators at QNPP”, (3) “Water Chemistry Existing Condition and Improving Intention of Steam Generation by QNPP”, and (4) “Ageing and Life Management of Steam Generator at DNMC”. |

Workshop on “Selected safety issues in the life extension process”. Paks, HUNGARY |
The workshop covered all the major safety issues behind the license renewal (PLEX) of Paks nuclear plant, clarifying safety objectives, scope and methods. Special emphasis was given to the following topics: equipment qualification in harsh environment, condition based maintenance rules, scope definition of the PLEX project, trend analysis for WWER systems. The workshop covered these topics in a PLEX perspective. A final set of recommendations prepared by the experts is expected to support a safety driven finalisation of the PLEX program. |

Workshop on PWR Reactor Pressure Vessel Head Replacement. Haiyan, China |
The workshop was organized to support Chinese NPPs, especially Qinshan Phase 1, in performing a head replacement project for the reactor pressure vessel by providing existing practices of PWR RPV head replacement in France, Japan and the USA. Presentations were given on the following subjects: Overview and project management of the RPVH replacement projects; Quality Control during manufacturing of a new RPVH; Key factors to systematically implement on-site replacement work; ALARA Plan and Risk Management for the RPVH replacement project; and Technical features of new vessel head and relevant R&D programme. |

Workshop on Ageing Management Procedure and Methodology and Components based Ageing Management |
The workshop aimed to strengthen the SNERDI and Quinshan NPP1 capability to support the preparation of Ageing Management Procedure and Methodology and Components based Ageing Management for key components of operational nuclear power plants (NPPs). The core of the workshop comprised lectures on the following topics: Scoping and grouping of SSCs to be covered by different aging management programs; Typical aging management programs for passive components; Aging phenomena: Piping and other SSCs. Degradation prediction and corrective actions; Aging management for active components; Aging phenomena: RPV, Pressurizer and Steam generator. Degradation prediction and corrective actions; Aging management database of Paks NPP; Recovery of operational, maintenance and surveillance data for the systematic AMP; Framework for Maintenance Rule in USA; Regulatory requirements, guidelines of NPP AMP in Hungary; IAEA activities on ageing/life management and structural integrity assessment. |

Workshop on Improvement of Conditional Based Maintenance (CBM) of Safety Related Valves for NPP in China. Wuhan, China |
The workshop aimed to provide information on experience and analysis techniques of safety related valves diagnostics in European countries, USA, Korea and Japan and recent new developments in experience and techniques of CBM of valves. Presentations were given on the following topics: Requirements and practices regarding valve maintenance and current status of CBM for safety valves; Design basis review (DBR) and CBM of MOVs; DBR and CBM of air operated valves (AOVs); CBM of check valves; Problems with power operated gate valves (POGVs); R&D and future direction of CBM. |
