Technical meeting on occupational radiation protection of itinerant workers was held in IAEA, 21-24 November 2011
The technical Meeting “Development of Guidance Material on the Management of the Radiation Protection Programme for Itinerant Workers” was held in IAEA, 21-24 November 2011. The Objective of the meeting is to obtain and share relevant information from member states in order to further develop guidance material on radiation protection for itinerant workers. Twenty participants from member states and international organizations attended the meeting.
In the fields of nuclear industry and radiation application areas, there are requirements on the professionals with special skills, the number of such workers is still increasing with the development of the above areas. Globalization makes the highly skilled workforce possible to move around regionally or even internationally. This kind of workers may be itinerant workers, contractors, outside workers, temporary workers. It is becoming a challenge for the Occupational radiation protection of such kinds of workers.
During the meeting, 19 presentations were given by the participants from the member states and international organizations. A roundtable discussions was taken to discuss the current issue and the way forward. The output of the meeting will speed up the development of the Safety Report for radiation protection of itinerant workers
