The nuclear sites and facilities in Iraq are owned by the Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST), who will become the licensee for these activities under the new nuclear law. [An exception to this is the Geo-pilot Plant which is owned by the Ministry of Industry. MoST will undertake the decommissioning of this plant on behalf of this Ministry].
MoST have appointed a Decommissioning Programme Manager to head this work, and the management structure is being evolved on the basis of the following figure. MoST have also established an Advisory Committee chaired by the Deputy Minister to have strategic oversight of the programme.
The decommissioning activities will be subject to regulatory control in accordance with the regulatory arrangements under development.
