EC-IAEA Cooperation in the Field of Nuclear Safety (NSNI Part) – MC.01a/09 Contract No 2010/244-291


Overview

The EC-IAEA Cooperation in the Field of Nuclear Safety was launched on 30 July 2010 and is carried out by the IAEA as the implementing body. The IAEA coordinates the activities needed to fulfil the project objectives with the Contracting Authority through the Contracting Authority’s EuropeAid Cooperation Office (AIDCO). The project is coordinated by the Division of Nuclear Installation Safety of the Department of Nuclear Safety and Security, IAEA. The contract will end on 29 July 2014.

Components

Component 1 – Enhancing Seismic Safety of Nuclear Installations

Task 1 Development of Safety Standards and supporting documents by holding expert meetings and consultancy services.
Task 2 Implementation of safety review services as assistance from the Organization to the Member States.
Task 3 Development of detailed guidelines through topical technical projects by supporting participation of experts and institutions in topical technical project groups.
Task 4 Provision of capacity building services – education and training- by holding regional and/or international workshops and training courses.
Task 5 Development and utilization of knowledge management and external events notification systems.

All ISSC Extra budgetary Programme Member States and institutions have access to the portal. Username and Password is provided during the periodic EC progress technical and narrative reports.

Component 2 – Strengthening the Regulatory Capabilities for Countries Embarking on Nuclear Power

Task 1 Preparation of relevant documents to review governmental and regulatory frameworks.
Task 2 Expert missions and training for self-assessment, action plans and for developing the regulatory infrastructures.
Task 3 Tailored IRRS missions for countries embarking on nuclear power.

Task 5 Further enhancement of ANSN future.

Component 4 – Strengthening the Nuclear Safety and Security Network (GNSSN) and International Regulatory Network (RegNet)

Task 1 Further development of GNSSN and RegNet.

Task 4 Further strengthening and promotion of regional and international cooperation through GNSSN/RegNet.
