The Policy and Programme Support Section shall provide support in defining, developing and implementing the policy and programme on those topics of the nuclear installation safety programme that are of a cross-cutting nature or relate to the Division as a whole.
General Nuclear Safety
To facilitate a coherent approach in the development of safety standards and other related documents for nuclear installations and to provide the secretariat for the Nuclear Safety Standards Committee (NUSSC). To facilitate an integrated approach in the development and application of the safety standards. To provide support to the Meeting of the Contracting Parties of the Convention on Nuclear Safety. To provide the secretarial support for the International Nuclear Safety Group (INSAG).

Management of Safety and Safety Culture
To assist nuclear operators, regulators and other relevant organizations in improving safety by promoting the concepts of management of safety and safety culture.

Knowledge Management
To assist Member States in developing sustainable systems to maintain technical competence in nuclear safety. To facilitate the sharing of relevant nuclear safety knowledge among centres of competence and to provide a platform for wider dissemination of this information.

To maintain and enhance an international nuclear safety regime and to increase transparency on safety matters.

- Supporting regional safety network programmes
- Servicing the Convention on Nuclear Safety
